What will my first visit involve?

It is nice to know that you are considering one of Corner Brook’s top dental office – Dental Arts Clinic and have questions about what your first visit to our office will involve.

After receiving a warm welcome from our staff, we will ask you to complete a health questionnaire and to provide us with the details of your dental insurance plan (if applicable).  We will review your medical history, examine you, take x-rays and determine what treatment is needed to obtain optimal oral health.

If you visit our practice for the first time because you are experiencing discomfort, we will do everything we can to alleviate the pain and continue with the dental exam and/or cleaning at your next appointment.

At Dental Arts Clinic in Corner Brook, NL, the focus of our care is you! When you join our practice you’ll enter into a partnership with each of us.  Our dentist, hygienists, and every member of our team are in your corner and will work with you to ensure you receive the highest quality dental health we can provide. We see you as an active participant in charge of your health, making decisions and helping to direct your care.  We will provide you with information so that you have knowledge about your oral health, understand the options for care that will help you reach your goals, and provide guidance and support for your decisions.

During your first visit, you will find that we do a lot of talking. But, even more so, we listen. From your first visit (even from the first phone call), we’ll be asking questions and listening to learn about you, who you are, what you want for your health, and how we can work together to achieve that.  Our initial time together will be focused on getting to know you, explore what’s important to you for oral health, and learn about what you expect from us.

At your first visit you’ll meet with one of our dental advisors who will help gather and communicate the information you give to us. Then, along with your dentist and hygienist, you’ll be an active participant in a thorough dental exam that includes photographs, dental x-rays and full charting of your teeth and gums.  Sometimes, to allow your dentist time to review all the information from your exam, you’ll be invited back for a shorter second appointment. You’ll have time to review the findings from your exam with your dentist, gain understanding about what it all means, and look at options for treatment. You’ll hear recommendations for your care based on your goals – then the decisions are up to you.
